The Master of Love

Saint Hovhan Mandakuni is one of the most outstanding Armenian Church writers of the second half of the fifth century. He became Catholicos of All Armenians in 470. He has produced some of the prayers in the Ժամագիրք (Breviary) as well as some hymns; he translated or composed a liturgy, and authored a number of theological works, of which only one has come down to us. He also edited Mashtots’s The Book of Rituals. The work, however, that has earned him a place in religious literature is his collection of Ճառք (Chark), twenty-six discourses and sermons.
