Today we celebrate the Independence Day of Armenia. I think of the independence of Armenia as a testimony, as a declaration that no power, no empire, no obstacle can erase the destiny God has placed on His people.

It’s about God’s faithfulness. It’s about His hand guiding a nation through valleys, through fires, through long nights of captivity, and bringing them into the morning of new life. After nine hundred years without sovereignty, after centuries of oppression and struggle, the dawn of independence broke forth.

When we look back at our history, we see trial after trial. Kingdoms rose, invaders came, and oppression tried to silence us. But here’s the truth: when God places His hand on something, no enemy can destroy it. As the Word of God declares: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Our independence is proof that God is faithful to His promises. He brought us through genocide, through dispersion, through wars and famine, and still He raised up His people. When others thought we were gone, He whispered, “You shall live and not die, and declare the works of the Lord.”

Some of you are discouraged today. You look at the struggles Armenia faces now—uncertainty, challenges, threats. But let me remind you: don’t measure God’s plan in years—measure it in centuries. He has not abandoned His people. He never will.

If He carried us through a thousand years without a kingdom, He will carry us through today’s struggles. If He gave us independence once, He can preserve it again. If He was faithful to the past, He will be faithful to the future.

And so the call of this Independence Day is not only to wave the flag and sing the anthem. It is to bend the knee before Almighty God and to say: “Lord, You have been faithful to us. We will be faithful to You. As You have carried us through the centuries, so we will walk with You in obedience and trust.” Amen
