The Greatest Gift of Christmas

On a crisp Christmas morning, a mother watched with joy as her six-year-old son eagerly unwrapped his gift. All he had asked for was a wheelbarrow, and there it was—bright red, shining under the glow of the Christmas tree. His eyes sparkled with excitement, lighting up the room brighter than any holiday sparkle.

As she prepared Christmas dinner, her son disappeared with his prized gift. Hours passed, and panic gripped her. Searching the house and yard, she found no sign of him. She ran to a pastor friend, pouring out her fears. The priest, full of compassion, offered to accompany her to the police station but suggested a quick stop at the church across the road to pray for the child’s recovery.

As they prayed in the quiet stillness of the empty sanctuary, they suddenly heard a noise. Turning, they saw the boy wheeling his red wheelbarrow down the aisle—with Baby Jesus from the nativity scene cushioned on a bed of straw! Relief turned to curiosity as the mother asked her son what he was doing. With innocence and sincerity, he replied, “I promised Baby Jesus that if He used His influence to get me this wheelbarrow, I’d take Him for a ride.”

Friends, that’s the kind of faith Jesus spoke about in Matthew 18:3 when He said, “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” A childlike faith is pure. It doesn’t get weighed down by doubt or overthinking. It believes that God is listening and that He cares. And when God answers that prayer, childlike faith responds with gratitude, with action, just like that little boy who received his gift and kept his promise.

So, this Christmas, let’s recapture that childlike faith and wonder. Because when we do, we’ll find that the greatest gift of Christmas is the joy of knowing that God is with us, that He loves us, and that He is always faithful. And let’s carry Jesus with us—maybe not in a wheelbarrow, but in our hearts, in our actions, and in our words. Let’s be a light to those around us, spreading the love, joy, and peace that Christ brought into the world.
