Speak to Your Soul

Have you ever noticed how often we speak to ourselves? Sometimes it happens almost without thinking. We say, “Get up.” “Keep going.” “Do not be afraid.” “You can do this.” What seems like a simple habit is often something much deeper. One part of the soul is speaking to another.

Many of our deepest struggles take place within, where one part of the soul reaches for peace while another clings to fear. One part wants to trust God, while another remains tired and uncertain. The soul can feel divided, and when that happens, we can feel shaken inside.

The Psalmist knew this inner struggle well. That is why he speaks to his own soul: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him” (Psalm 42:11). He does not let sorrow rule his heart. He turns inward with faith and speaks hope to his soul.

I had a similar experience after my car accident. When I came to myself in the hospital after five surgeries, my soul felt divided. I knew God was with me, yet questions were rising within me: Why, Lord? Why now? Will I walk again? What will my future look like? Everything felt shaken. Everything felt uncertain.

Then one day, after a long inner struggle, I spoke to my soul: “Why are you afraid? Why are you so troubled? Do you not have a faithful God, who has carried you this far? Do not panic. Hope in God. He spared your life. He carried you through every surgery. He is still holding your future in His hands.”

From that moment, peace began to rise within me. The struggle and the pain was still real, but hope had found its voice.

Friends, if today your soul feels tired or divided, do not leave it alone in its sorrow. Speak to it with faith. Remind it that God is near, that He has not forgotten you, and that the One who carried you this far will carry you still.

The struggle may not disappear at once, but in time, by the grace of God, your soul will breathe freely again, your heart will rejoice again, and you will stand once more in the peace and strength of God.
