Ready for Any Winter

The other day, I stepped outside, bundled in my warm winter coat, ready for the cold. As I walked through the city, I saw others doing the same: heavy coats, scarves, gloves, layer after layer. It was a cold and windy day, but nobody looked worried. Nobody was panicking because they were prepared. They had what they needed to handle the weather.

It struck me that the difference between shivering in fear and walking with confidence isn’t the weather, it’s what you’re wearing. If you’ve got the right clothing, you don’t dread the storm.

The Scripture says, “She is not afraid for her household when it snows, for all her household are clothed in crimson. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come” (31:21, 25).

Here’s a woman who’s not worried about tomorrow, not anxious about what’s coming down the road. She’s already prepared. She’s already taken care of what her family will need. When the snow falls, when the cold winds blow, she’s not living in fear; she knows her loved ones are covered, they’re protected, they’re warm.

That’s how God wants us to live. Not worried about the future, not stressed out about what could go wrong, but with quiet confidence, knowing that we are already provided for, already clothed. Confidence in the Christian life doesn’t come from having an easy path. It comes from trusting the God who equips us for the path we have.

And just as a coat shields us from the freezing air, God’s strength surrounds us when life grows cold. Just as gloves protect our hands, His peace guards our hearts. Just as a scarf shields the neck from the wind, His presence wraps around us in moments of uncertainty.

Life will bring its winter seasons, days when the winds of worry blow, when responsibilities pile up like snowdrifts, when the unknown feels unsettling. But those seasons are not meant to intimidate us. They are meant to remind us to draw close to the One who clothes us.

So lift your head. Straighten your shoulders. Step into tomorrow not with fear, but with faith. Not with anxiety, but with assurance. And when the snow falls, when the season turns cold, live each day dressed in the garments only God can provide: strength, dignity, hope, and joy.
