Never Alone

Writer: Bishop Mesrop ParsamyanBishop Mesrop Parsamyan

One of my former parishioners shared a heartfelt struggle with me. He said, "I feel lonely not because I lack friends. I have many friends who think and care about me. I can open my heart to them, and their words of encouragement lift me up. But the fact that we can't be together every moment creates this sense of loneliness."

Even our Lord Jesus Christ, during His time on Earth, witnessed and experienced deep human loneliness. He saw it in the eyes of the lepers and heard it in the voices of the blind. He felt it personally when His closest friends, the apostles, deserted Him in His most difficult hour (Mark 14:50).

Yet, even knowing He would be abandoned, Jesus was confident in one thing: the constant presence of God the Father. During the Last Supper, He told the apostles, "You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me" (John 16:32).

Shortly after saying these words, Jesus was arrested, suffered, and was crucified for us. His ultimate sacrifice was to restore our communion with God the Father and to grant us His eternal presence.

We've all felt that desperate sense of loneliness at some point. When our friends can't be by our side all the time, we can find comfort in knowing that God is always with us. He understands our struggles and fears because He Himself experienced everything we are going through. We are never truly alone.

And not only do we have God's constant presence, but we also have His power and protection. Remember His promise: "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).

So, let's hold on to this truth. In our moments of loneliness, let's remember that we have a loving God who is always with us, strengthening us, helping us, and upholding us. We are never truly alone.
