Make Room for More

In Jesus’ day, when you went to the market to buy grain, the seller had options. They could pour a little in your container, barely enough to meet the measure, and send you on your way. But the generous ones did more. They’d press that grain down, push it tight so more could fit. Then they’d shake it together so every empty space got filled. And just when you thought it was full, they’d pour until the grain spilled over, until it was running into your lap!
And that’s the picture Jesus gave us in Luke 6:38. He said, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over—will be poured into your lap.” This is a promise, a principle that still holds true today. When we give, God responds. And He doesn’t just give back what we gave. He fills every gap, presses it down to make room for more, and pours until the blessing overflows in our lives.
But here’s the key: It starts with giving. Jesus said clearly, “Give, and it will be given to you.” You can’t reap a harvest without first planting a seed. You can’t expect multiplication where you haven’t made an investment. Whether it's your time, your resources, your kindness, or your faith, you’ve got to sow before you can see the increase.
God takes this so seriously that in Malachi 3:10 He issues a challenge: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse… Test me in this,” says the Lord, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
This is the only time in Scripture where God says, “Test Me.” He’s inviting us, daring us to trust Him. “Try Me,” He says. “See what I can do.” Try God with your finances. Try Him with your time. Try Him with your generosity. And then stand back and watch what only He can do.
So, friends, don’t wait. Start blessing others. Start giving with faith. Because when you give with a generous heart, you make room for a blessing that’s pressed down, shaken together, and running over—so much so that it spills into every corner of your life.
