The Holy Scriptures are full of wonders, and that’s why the psalmist prays, "Lord, open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things in Your law" (Psalm 119:18). The "law" in this context refers to the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch. For us Christians, it encompasses the entire Holy Bible, the Sacred Scriptures.
These books are not just rules or regulations; they are teachings and instructions from God. They are promises of healing, peace, and joy. They are words of comfort in times of trouble and words of encouragement in times of doubt. They are reminders of God's faithfulness and His unwavering love for us. And within these teachings, there are wonders waiting to be discovered.
But here's the key: we need God to open our eyes. Without His help, we are like a blind person standing in the sunlight—feeling its warmth but unable to see its brilliance. When we prayerfully engage with the Scriptures, asking God to open our eyes, we are "being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another" (2 Corinthians 3:18). We begin to see the beauty, the wisdom, and the guidance that God has laid out for us.
And how do we discover these wonders? First, we need to spend time in God's Word daily. Just as you wouldn't expect to find a treasure without digging, you can't expect to uncover the treasures of the Bible without investing time in it. Second, we need to pray and ask God to open our eyes to give us spiritual insight and understanding. And third, we need to apply what we learn to our lives. It's not enough to just hear the Word; we need to live it out.
So, let's make it a daily prayer, "Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of your law." Let’s open our hearts, open our Bibles, and let the light of His Spirit illuminate the pages. As we do, we will find our faith strengthened, our hope renewed, and our love for God deepened.
