“I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 112:1-2).
This beautiful Psalm, known as the "A Song of Ascents," was traditionally sung by the pilgrims ascending to the holy city of Jerusalem, a path riddled with potential dangers—from the harsh desert conditions to the threat of wild animals and bandits lurking in the shadows. It was a journey that tested the faith and patience of every traveler.
We, too, are pilgrims, journeying through the challenges of life. Along the way, we encounter pain, uncertainty, and days when hope feels distant. We receive news that leaves us shaken. We face moments when answers are hard to find and the road ahead looks unclear. Life can feel heavy. The nights seem long. Fear whispers that we might not make it through.
In these moments, Holy Scriptures invite us to lift our eyes, to look beyond our present struggles. Our help does not come from within ourselves or from the world around us. Our help comes from the Lord, the One who created the heavens and the earth.
Lifting our eyes is more than a physical act; it’s a change in perspective. It means looking past our worries and focusing on the One who has the power to help us. When we look to God, we remember that He is greater than our circumstances. He is not limited by time or space. He is not overwhelmed by our needs.
The same God who carved out the mountains, who placed the stars in the sky, is the One who watches over us. When we understand this truth, our fears begin to lose their grip. We realize that we are not alone, and that nothing is too difficult for the One who holds all creation in His hands.
So, when the winds of worry and the waves of hardship try to bring you down, lift your eyes—not in fear but in faith. Look to the Lord with confidence. Trust His power. Trust His promises. He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us, and His word is unbreakable. The same God who holds the universe together is holding you, too.
