I recently came across a story about a man named Hagop. Hagop was a humble man who visited a church every single day. He never stayed long, just a few seconds at the back of the sanctuary. This puzzled the priest, who began to wonder if Hagop was up to something. Concerned, he asked the sacristan to keep an eye on him.

One day, the sacristan approached Hagop and asked, “What are you doing here?” Hagop replied with a gentle smile, “I’m just talking to the Lord.” The sacristan was skeptical. “How can you be praying? You’re in and out so quickly.” Hagop looked up and said, “I just look at Him and say, ‘Jesus, it’s Hagop.’”

Later on, Hagop fell ill and was admitted to a hospital. When the priest came to visit parishioners at the hospital, he was surprised to find Hagop there. Curious, he asked Hagop why he seemed so joyful and at peace despite his illness.

Hagop said, "It's my visitor, Father. He comes every day.” The priest looked confused; he knew nobody had been visiting Hagop. “Who comes to see you?” he asked. With eyes shining, Hagop replied, "Every day, He stands at the foot of my bed, looks at me, and says, 'Hagop—it's Jesus!’”

Friends, too often, we make our relationship with God more complicated than it needs to be. We think we need the perfect prayer, the right setting, or a lot of time to connect with Him. But Hagop shows us that prayer is not about the length of our words, it’s about the love behind them, it’s about opening our hearts.

James 4:8 tells us, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” This means you don’t have to have it all together to come to Him. What He’s looking for is a heart that simply whispers, “Jesus, it’s me.”

So the next time you feel alone, anxious or overwhelmed, just say, “Jesus, it’s me.” It might be a quick moment in your car, at the store, or late at night—wherever you are, He will be there. Because you are His child. You are loved. And the moment you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you and will say, “It’s Me. I’m here.”
