Guard Your Mind

People sometimes ask me, “Srpazan, why don’t you use a case for your phone?” I usually smile and say, “Because I like to live dangerously!” But in truth, it always makes me think how careful we are with the things we buy. We cover our phones, we buy screen protectors, insurance plans, and we clean the fingerprints off the screen. Some people won’t even set their phone down without a soft cloth underneath!
We’re so protective of the things that can be replaced… yet how careful are we with the things that can’t?
You can buy a new phone. You can replace a car, a house, or even a job. But your mind, your thoughts, that’s your greatest possession. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” That word heart in Scripture embraces the whole inner world — the mind, the will, the emotions. It is the control center of the human soul.
Guard that space. Be intentional. Pay attention to what you allow to enter the mind, the conversations you entertain, the voices you follow, the messages you replay again and again. Start protecting your mind the same way you protect your possessions.
Because if you let negative thoughts settle in—worries that steal your sleep, fears that drain your strength, doubts that overshadow faith, resentment that poisons joy—it’s like downloading a virus onto your soul. The screen may still light up, life may still go on, but inside things slow down. And little by little your inner world becomes cluttered, crowded, and confused.
So, how do we guard the mind?
- Spend quiet time with the Lord every day.
- Read His Word, even a few verses, and let truth settle in your heart.
- Pray and ask God to guide your thoughts.
- Stay close to people who lift you up.
- Turn down the voices that discourage you or lead you away from God.
- Remember how God has helped you before, and His faithfulness will strengthen you now.
Friends, lift your minds toward God, and He will lift your lives with it. Guard that sacred space within you—the mind, the heart, the thoughts—and His joy, His hope, and His peace will flow through every part of your life.
