God’s Way Is the Best Way

Growing up in Yerevan, Armenia, I could see Mount Ararat from the window of our apartment. Every day, it stood there majestic, silent, and seemingly close enough to touch.

Yesterday, many years later, I stood with our pilgrims at the foot of Mount Ararat, this time from the other side. I was no longer looking through a window. The mountain that had filled the horizon of my childhood now rose directly before us.

Standing there I thought about Noah and his family, about the flood and the Ark and the obedience that brought them there.

The scripture tells us that, God gave Noah very specific instructions. He told him what kind of wood to use, how large to build the ark, how many levels it should have, and how it should be sealed. Then Scripture says, “Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him” (Genesis 6:22).

Noah did not modify God’s plan. He did not cut corners. He did not wait until he understood every detail. He could not yet see the storm, but he trusted the One who could.

We often want God’s destination, but we resist His directions. We ask Him to bless our plans while quietly changing His instructions. We obey when it is convenient, but take shortcuts when obedience becomes difficult.

Shortcuts may save a little time, but they can cost us our peace, integrity, and spiritual strength. God sees what we cannot see. His instructions are not meant to limit us. They are meant to prepare us for what lies ahead.

Friends, you may not understand everything God is asking of you today. You may not see how all the pieces fit together. But take the next faithful step. Do what God has placed before you. Do not cut corners. Do not allow impatience to lead you away from His will.

Noah’s obedience did not prevent the storm, but it carried him safely through it. Our obedience will not always make life easier, but it will keep us close to God.

His way may not always be the fastest way. It may not always be the easiest way. But God’s way will always be the best way.
