Back in 1972, something unthinkable happened at St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Vatican. A Hungarian geologist attacked one of the world’s most famous sculptures, Michelangelo's Pieta, with a hammer. This masterpiece, sculpted with such precision and beauty, was severely damaged. It could’ve been deemed ruined, discarded, or left in its broken state. But instead, the officials didn’t give up on it.
They called in the best art restorers, the most brilliant minds, and provided every resource imaginable to bring the Pieta back to life. And today, that sculpture, once damaged and broken, still stands in its place of honor, admired by millions. It was restored—not just to what it once was, but with a renewed beauty, a story of redemption written into its marble.
If humans treasure their creations so deeply that they go to such lengths to restore them, how much more does our Heavenly Father, the One who created us in His image, value you and me? How much more will He spare no expense to restore His children, no matter how broken, no matter how far we’ve fallen?
The Bible says in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." That means when you feel like life has left you shattered, when you’ve made mistakes, when circumstances have knocked you down, God doesn’t discard you. He doesn’t walk away. He comes close to you. He rolls up His sleeves, and He begins the process of restoration.
Friends, don’t give up on yourself. Don’t believe the lie that it’s too late or that you’re too far gone. God is not finished with you yet. He’s working behind the scenes. He’s gathering the pieces. And He’s putting you back together—not just as you were, but better. He’s shaping, molding, and restoring you into a masterpiece.
So, no matter how broken you may feel, remember you’re still valuable to God, because you are His image and likeness, his masterpiece. Trust Him. Let Him do His work in you. You’re in the hands of the Master Restorer, the One who knows exactly how to put you back together. What’s ahead is greater than what’s behind, and the restoration will be better than anything you could imagine.
He is the Potter, I am the clay, and when broken, can be restored. Never far from the mercy
and creativity of God.
Lovely, thank you.
