“But God.” These two words, are a Gospel within a Gospel. They encapsulate the essence of our faith, the hope of our salvation, and the assurance of God’s unwavering presence in our lives. All mankind was condemned to death, chained, and imprisoned in the dungeon of sin, “But God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Throughout the Bible, we see this phrase time and again, reminding us of God’s mercy, faithfulness, and power. Here are some examples: “But God had mercy” (Philippians 2:27), “But God is faithful” (1 Corinthians 10:13), “But God was causing the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:6), and “But God raised him from the dead” (Acts 13:30).
In Noah's time, the floodwaters covered the entire earth, drowning the hopes and dreams of many. It must have felt like a never-ending nightmare. "But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded" (Genesis 8:1).
In the book of Acts, we read that St. Stephen, before his martyrdom, encouraged his Christian brothers and sisters by following the example of Joseph from the Old Testament. “The patriarchs, being jealous of Joseph, sold him to take him to Egypt. But God was with him and freed him from all his troubles” (Acts 7:9-10).
Friends, there is no phrase more powerful in the Bible or in our lives than "But God." These two words empower us to scale the highest mountain peaks, navigate through the fiercest storms, and bravely walk through the darkest valleys. With faith and confidence, we can face any challenge, knowing that Almighty God is with us and will deliver us from all our troubles.
Maybe you’re facing a difficult situation today. Perhaps you’re dealing with a broken relationship, a financial struggle, a health issue, or a deep sense of loneliness. But remember, your story always has the phrase "But God." No matter how dire your circumstances or how impossible things seem, God is always with you, just as He was with Joseph, Stephen, and countless others. He sees you, He loves you, and He is working all things together for your good.
