These are the first words of Risen Christ to his Apostles. It is a greeting, but above all a gift, for if the greeting of men is only the expression of a wish, the salutation of God is effective. And if the Risen Christ gives peace to his disciples, it is because, at this precise moment, peace was what they most needed, they who were justly agitated, worried, frightened, discouraged, disappointed, disoriented after the tragic death of their Teacher. In our world, torn apart by wars, terrorism, and quarrels of all kinds, more than ever we desire peace. But how do we receive the peace? Everybody doesn’t have it. It’s a gift of God. We receive it. Or we walk away from it. Or better to say: we receive Him. Or walk away from Him. Risen Jesus Christ is our peace!
