Our human existence can be compared to a book. Some people consider their lives here below as the main story. They see the life after death, if they believe it at all, as a mere appendix, a supplement. The authentic Christian attitude is exactly the opposite. Our present life is merely the preface, the introduction of the book. The moment of death is not the conclusion of the book, but the beginning of the first chapter.
