True Freedom

While studying in Strasbourg, one day, on my way to university, I found an inscription on a wall. It said: "Caged birds sing about freedom, but free birds simply soar.”

People, not God, create cages for birds. Unfortunately, people also create their own cages made of sins, obsessions, and fears. After being trapped in these cages for a long time, they become tired, adopt strange postures, and express their desire for freedom through their songs.

In the Gospel, Lord Jesus says: “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:31-32) The truth is not an idea but a person. The truth is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and by forming a deep connection with Him and becoming His genuine followers, we can experience true freedom.

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). No matter what has caused us to feel trapped, God's Son has the power and willingness to give us perfect freedom.

When we hold onto His hand, listen to His words, and break free from our “cages,” we can enjoy the refreshing embrace of freedom given by God. And then we will understand that God created us to live a life of soaring freedom as His children: “That the creation itself will be set free from its enslavement to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:21).
