God's Unfailing Promise

"I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous." - Joshua 1:5-6.

Only God can make such a firm promise to us. People often make promises to one another, such as the vows between spouses or the assurances children give to their parents. Despite our best intentions, our promises can falter, hindered by human limitations, frailty, and mortality. In contrast, God's promises are unbreakable. When God says He will be with us and will never leave or forsake us, that is the promise of His constant presence in our lives.

These words were spoken by God to Joshua, who was chosen to lead the Israelites to the Promised Land following the prophet Moses. Alongside this promise, God urged Joshua to be strong and courageous. This call to courage is also relevant to us. We need strength and bravery to live a faithful life, nurture our children, cherish our spouse, and fulfill our distinct calling. The promise made to Joshua, and by extension to us, is the assurance of God's enduring presence. Our strength alone is insufficient, but we can be strong in the Lord; His power never knows weakness.

Let us then live in the fullness of God's presence, under His watchful, loving care. God accompanies us through life's highs and lows, dispelling fear and equipping us to face life's trials, tribulations, and challenges bravely. To Him be glory, honor, and worship, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto the ages of ages: Amen.
