Do Not Fear!

Many people mistakenly think that by believing in God and becoming a Christian, they will have a carefree life on earth with no responsibilities. Alas, everything in this world has been affected by sin: wildlife and plants, human society and economy, our bodies, and our relationships. That is why difficulties and tribulations are always present in our lives.

However, for those who place their trust in God and do His will, this is what the Lord God says: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Isaiah 43:1-3

In the context of this section of Isaiah’s prophecy, God reminds us that we are precious to Him. He created and saved us. He promises that he will always be with us in trials and tribulations.

God does not promise that when we pass through the deep waters and rivers of tribulation, we will not get wet. Naturally, some hardships will cause us pain. We will get wet, but God promises that we will not drown. When we go through the fire of tribulations, we will often get burned, but God promises that we will not be incinerated.

Indeed, with God’s protection and help, we will arise from the overflowing rivers of trial and the furnaces of fire more alive. We are confident in God’s unfailing promises then and now. We believe this because our history is full of witnesses. We know because our faith illuminates our minds brightly.
